Part 3 – Lucid music of Baul singers – The heartbeat of Bengal’s folk song SANTINIKETAN, India

A young Baul singer sings a folk song that will bound to stop you on your tracks at Santiniketan, India

The Bauls are magical musicians and form an inseparable part of rural West Bengal, India and Bangladesh. Bauls hover around villages or migrate from one place to another and earn their living from singing melodious songs with a simple one string instrument called “ektara”, or use the multi string known as “dotara”.

They come from an unorthodox devotional tradition, and their unique songs are touched by Buddhism, Bengali, Hinduism, Sufi Islam, and Vasinavism yet remain distinctly diverse from them.

Please click the “PLAY” in the link below and meet this young Baul at Santineketan and I hope you will appreciate his eloquence, music and nerve soothing flute recital.
